    Annie was awesome !!
The service is terrible. The front desk hostess needs to be fired. She told us she was going to seat us for our reservation, and then took a phone call that lasted 10 minutes while we were all standing there. My 10 year old daughter went to the desk to let her know that it was my 8 year old daughter's birthday and her direct quote was "So what do you want me to do about that." The pace of the dipper delivery was slow so our cheese and dessert burned. We had an included 18% gratuity on our bill and without this size of the group, would have tipped <10%. In the past we have always tipped 25%+. We
The server who greeted us was unprofessional, and immature. At the time of booking, I had specifically requested for, and been assured a booth as we were celebrating a birthday. The host however took us to a table. She skipped all the available tables in the restaurant and gave us a table right at the end of the restaurant, surrounded by storage cartons!!! When I told her about the reservation request, she said we would have to wait for other guests to leave and didn't have an estimate for when that would be. We decided to wait. While waiting we noticed an empty booth and asked to be seated there. Turns out it was available! So not only did she ignore the reservation request, unnecessarily took us to the worst table in the restaurant, but also was either incompetent enough to not notice an empty table behind her, or rude enough to not give it to us. Melting pot used to be one of my favorite restaurants to come to, especially for my birthday. Yesterday's experience was sorely disappointing, and not worth half the money we paid to be there.
We had to ask for the wine list and when we asked the server, she looked confused and said the wine was on the back of the menu. We had to ask again for full wine list. When mgr brought out wine he turned his back on the person who ordered the wine.
You could be honest about your Groupon offers. You should NOT offer Groupon if you are going to "cheat" your customers who purchased 4 entrees... but you only give them 3... and then have poor service. We will never go back to the San Mateo location. The specialty cocktail (mojito) was also poorly made - the first one. The bartender came and said they had run short on the mint ... it was just a ridiculous experience. This is only the San Mateo location. We have been to the Sacramento location a number of times and ABSOLUTELY LOVED it.... we never used a Groupon in Sacramento. Perhaps that was the problem. If that was the problem, don't offer the Groupon. Definitely improve customer service and presentation of the food.
Kristen Paradis was our server and took time out to chat with us and make us feel as we were friends and not just diners. She also took extra steps to make my infant daughter feel welcome. There was a Hispanic gentleman that was also helping Kristen and he was equally as helpful and polite. Forgive for not getting his name. My infant daughter loved him too!
The service was great, she was very helpful in explaining the process, and has many helpful suggestions. She also gave us more fruit when we ran out, and was able to heat the chocolate more. This was a great experience!
Overall good experience. Some takeaways: our initial table/booth had gnats by the hung artwork. We asked to move to another table and were accomodated. A gnat did fly by us at the new table once. Might want to look into the gnat problem at this San Mateo location, it degrades from the experience. The special requests options with your restaurant via OpenTable marketing/promotion was only given a day before the actual reservation. After initial reservation I only got email from OpenTable about the reservation to modify/cancel plus special requests section but no marketing to indicate what request options were available. I ended up finding out about that via research/Yelp and called to make the special requests. Would have been nice to have been informed on initial reservation with OpenTable. Also, maybe it might be location specific, but the San Mateo location offered a 1 rose option but the OpenTable marketing did not list it as an option for special requests. I only got to know and ordered that via phoning in. Last would have been nice to have been more specifically informed that some things like the Coq Au Vin cooking option was extra for the Groupon experience, only found that out at the end.
Hire and keep more staff. Train staff to monitor food to table times.
Also, preordered chocolate covered strawberries for my girl friends birthday that we never received. Called the restaurant the following week and were assured we were not charged and manager was very friendly and apologetic.
